Storing Art Supplies

The first rule of thumb if you want to make sure your art supplies last is to keep an organized studio. 

Yes, the link between “messy” and “master” is really more a myth than anything. While we all have our moments of complete immersion into our crafts, disorganized studios are not necessarily healthy for the creative mind. 
 
Knowing where all your art tools are stored will save you time and energy looking for the right pencil or marker. Needing just that one shade of Muted Turquoise only to find you misplaced it can impede creativity. 
 
Most artists choose some combination of toolboxes, bins, baskets and caddys in their studio. That way, when inspiration strikes, you’ll know exactly where to go for the tool you are looking for. 

Obviously, keeping the tops on your markers is important as they can easily dry out.

Colored pencils should be stored away from direct sunlight and heat. 

The best condition for colored pencils is a cool, dry location that is not subject to extreme changes in temperatures or humidity. It can also be helpful to group clusters of similar colors to prevent spending excessive time hunting for the right shade. 
 
With a little planning and organization, you can help prolong the life of your favorite tools and make your finding the right tool a bit easier.
